Hearing Aids And Football

Lots of young people dream of becoming a successful footballer. Whatever your dreams are or whichever team you support, if you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then wearing a suitable hearing aid will help you to enjoy ‘The Game’ to the fullest. The best way to find, fit and wear a suitable hearing aid is to make an appointment with a good, professional audiologist like Clarisound.

Football Dreams

It’s not everyday that a football star is discovered and we all expect that every top footballer is also a top athlete, so it may come as a surprise to learn that a good professional footballer also has hearing loss. A young, German footballer named Simon Ollert has been living his dream to play professional football, despite suffering from hearing loss since he was a child. His parents decided to treat his hearing loss by buying him hearing aids and, to their delight, Simon loved them. “Simon never wanted to take them off; they were his favourite thing,” said Simon’s father.

The difference between Simon and other young football stars is that he has the drive and motivation to relentlessly pursue his dreams and now hearing aids have helped Simon to do this. At the age of 18, Simon played in the youth squad at FC Ingolstadt. Nowadays Simon has built a successful career as a professional footballer, by wearing hearing aids.

Simon also runs a football camp, with hearing aid producer Phonak, for young footballers with hearing loss. “My own story shows what you can really achieve, despite hearing loss. It's amazing that Phonak is helping me to put this unique sporting event together. It allows us to inspire kids and young people and to encourage them to pursue their own goals in life,” Simon says. Simon’s hearing aids allow him to communicate with other players on the pitch and hear the coaches’ instructions.

Maintaining Hearing Aids For Footballers

If you, or your loved ones, play football, or any other sports, and wear hearing aids then you must maintain them properly. Here are some tips;

1. Ask a good, professional audiologist, like Clarisound, for advice on maintaining your hearing aids for sports. Modern technology means that most hearing aids are now designed to be dust and water resistant.

2. Keep your hearing aids dry. It’s a good idea to use a dehumidifier when you are sleeping.

3. Use hearing aid clips. Many companies produce clips to ensure your hearing devices stay in place whilst you are playing sport.

Whether you dream of scoring goals professionally or just watching the match with your family and friends, if you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then wearing a suitable hearing aid will enable you to enjoy ‘The Game’ to the fullest. Please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with one of our friendly, professional audiologists at Clarisound to get some advice about suitable hearing aids. It could be the match of the year!
