Hearing Aids, Misunderstandings and Nonsense

Hearing Aids, Misunderstandings and Nonsense

Accidents happen, misunderstanding too. Most of us have been in one situation, or another, where we think “I don’t remember that!” or “That never happened!” It’s the same whether you are in Malaysia or anywhere in the world. Now that you, and your loved ones, can travel again, after the end of lockdown, you may be planning to travel overseas. If you, or your loved ones, are experiencing hearing loss then it's a good idea to visit a professional audiologist for guidance for hearing care. It could save you a lot of hassle when you travel.

Hands Free Gadgets

In northeast France, a French driver was fined 135 Euros when his hearing aid was mistaken for a hands-free gadget. The driver was reportedly shocked to receive a fine for wearing an audio device while driving, despite the device actually being a hearing aid. The driver was also docked three points from his licence for the alleged offence of “driving a vehicle while wearing a sound-emitting device in the ear". The man, who has hearing difficulties, wears hearing aids in both ears. The device allegedly seen by police was this, and not a banned sound-emitting gadget. The national police said that they recorded the supposed infraction in April but the man said that he was never stopped by the police and never even saw a police officer that day.

Hearing Solutions

The man claims he has been a victim of police misunderstanding and wrote to the public prosecutor to challenge the fine. The man also included evidence of his hearing problems and hearing aid use, including a bill for his hearing aids and a photograph of them to show how they could have been confused with a “sound-emitting device”’. In France it is illegal to use hands-free headsets, earpieces or earbuds for the purposes of using a mobile phone while driving, including in a car or van, motorbike, or when riding a bicycle. If the man hadn’t been wearing hearing aids he may still have been fined but good hearing helped him to resolve a misunderstanding, and nonsense, and remain calm.
