Netflix with Hearing Aids

Hearing Aids and Netflix

Watching movies non stop can be good for you, especially if you can’t go out much. Whether you are a Netflix fan, or not yet, there should now be no issues watching your favourite Netflix series, even if you are losing your hearing. Having a laugh is good for your soul, it’s also good for the people who surround you. If you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then wearing a suitable hearing aid will help keep you entertained, and Netflix Inc. knows this.

Silent Movies

Imagine yourself watching a movie with the sound turned off. Mmm. Not so much fun is it. If you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then this is what you may be experiencing. If you are suffering from a moderate degree of hearing loss then, without closed-captioning, what should be fun can quickly become frustrating. Even if your hearing is intact, you may still have trouble without visible words on the screen because a show involves fast-paced dialogue or thick accents. Don’t give up, there are plenty of solutions available.

Audio Descriptions And Closed Captions

Netflix has features like audio descriptions and closed captions for helping people with hearing and visual disabilities. Commenting on Netflix’s accessibility settings, Debra Chinn, Director of International Dubbing, Netflix says, “Making entertainment accessible is important to Netflix. We truly believe everyone should be able to access and enjoy great stories. We started audio description with Marvel’s Daredevil in 2015. Netflix also creates closed captions for all Originals. Today, Netflix offers audio description and closed captions in over 30 languages. We continue to strive for the highest quality in this space.” The Netflix app allows you to search for shows with audio descriptions. This allows you to listen to a show’s descriptions in any language you want. With audio description the narrator describes what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes. People who suffer from hearing loss can select ‘Closed Captions’ from the “audio & subtitles'' menu. They also contain descriptions of background noises and tracks playing in the background.

Assistive Listening Systems

All good corporations embrace communities. It’s good marketing. Netflix shows its awareness of different communities in their offerings, including people with hearing loss. If you are losing your hearing then finding and wearing a suitable hearing aid will restore your hearing, your quality of life and your Netflix experience. Many assistive listening devices work with Netflix including;

  • Headphones
  •
  • Headsets
  •
  • Hearing aids
  •
  • Neck loops

If you are losing your hearing then the best way to watch Netflix and enjoy all the other aspects of your life is to wear a hearing aid.
