Top Tips for Domestic Travel with Hearing Aids

Hearing Aids and Domestic Tourism

It’s good to take a break from the daily grind. A change of scene should be enjoyable and allows you to recharge our batteries, do some fun things or even spend time for reflection. With international travel highly limited, domestic tourism is the perfect solution for anyone wanting a quick break. Malaysia has so many great destinations to spend a night or a weekend away. If you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then traveling anywhere can be challenging. It doesn’t have to be if you wear a hearing aid.

Top Tips for Domestic Travel

If you, or your loved ones, are losing your hearing then make your domestic holiday easy and enjoyable by planning your trip in advance.

Tip 1. Before booking a hotel, ask about available accommodations for people with hearing loss. Many hotels have rooms with specific facilities for people with hearing loss if you request them in advance.

Tip 2. If you are traveling in a group or with a tour company, inform them of your hearing loss. Some tourist attractions, galleries and museums provide hearing loops or other assistive technology if you request it. Learn about your destination before you go by checking online.

Tip 3. Let your travel buddies know about your hearing loss so they can help you if you have any problems. Suggest that you stay close to them so you can better hear and see their face for lipreading.

Tip 4. When you go out for dinner ask the waiter for quiet corner tables at the restaurant. Make the most of local knowledge by asking your hotel concierge to recommend good local restaurants that are also quieter.

Tip 5. When you make your travel booking get detailed travel information in writing to avoid mistakes and misunderstandings over the phone.

Tip 6. Pack extra batteries and chargers for your hearing aids before you set off. Replacement batteries may be harder to find in unfamiliar locations. Pack a supply of batteries in different travel bags in case one gets misplaced. Check that all your chargers are working well and bring an extra one just in case.

Tip 7. Back up your hearing aids. Having your hearing aids break down can be troubling at any time, but when you are far away from home, and your audiologist, it can be inconvenient and spoil your trip. If you have a spare hearing aid, bring it too.
