Virtual Reality (VR) and Hearing Aids

With Facebook set to ramp up it’s Virtual Reality (VR) business and Augmented Reality (AR), and other technology, becoming increasingly popular, using new technology is still possible and easy even if you, and your loved ones are losing your hearing. One future reality for many people is that, as you age, you are likely to lose your hearing. Fitting and wearing a suitable hearing aid will restore your hearing and your quality of life even if you don’t use much technology, yet.

Virtual Reality

You may not have started using VR yet but it is becoming increasingly popular and with the working world increasingly remote team meetings are held online and companies like Spatial have experienced exponential growth. If you are tempted, or even required, to use VR for work, or play, and are losing your hearing, then there’s a useful new VR headset being designed especially for the deaf and hearing impaired. A European company dedicated to developing technology for people with hearing loss is developing a new headset called ‘Starts AR’. According to the manufacturers, “Starts AR resembles a call centre headset, except the arm that would hold the microphone rests at variable angles in front of the wearer’s eye. A micro display, similar to those seen on Google Glass, streams subtitles in any language to the user’s field of view.”

Technology For Hearing Loss

All around the world companies, scientists and hearing care providers are continually working to produce better and more affordable technology for hearing aids. Vast advances have already been made in size, design and functionality for hearing aids and now you can easily connect your hearing aid to bluetooth and change the direction of the microphones on your hearing aid using an App. If you love gaming or are being pushed towards using VR for work, as a creative or for other purposes, then soon you should be able to mix the limitless world of VR with technology for hearing loss.
